The
department comprises of the pharmacy store, the main dispensary and
pharmacy at the casualty. There are 5 pharmacists, 3 pharmacy technicians
and 2 pharmacy attendants in the pharmacy department. Patients are attended to at the main
dispensary from 8.00am-3.00pm. Afterwards drugs can be collected at
the pharmacy in the casualty till 9.00am the next morning. Patients are usually counselled on the
use of the drugs dispensed to them. Patients below 12 years and those
above 60 years are given drugs free-of-charge (provided the drug(s)
are available). Almost all patients collect Free Eko
Malaria Drugs from the department as well; also staff of Lagos State
Government collect available drugs free from the section. Drugs and
consumables are collected from the State Central Stores. Monthly returns
of drugs collected and dispensed are sent to the Board Secretariat
at the end of every month. The department participates in the monthly
continuity medical education programmes organised by the hospital.
